Yellow Ware Pie Plate Rare Flower Petal
Mark Bennett |
|
| Price: $185/$165 |
| Description: |
This is an early 9 1/2" yellow ware pie plate with no cracks, chips or hairlines. What it does have is the impressed flower petal stamp possibly of the Edwin Bennett and Co. Baltimore, Md. 1846-1918. My source includes Yellow Ware by John Gallo 1985 p.142. I believe this piece to be of the 19thC and wheel thrown.
It is in excellent condition with discoloration around the stilt marks and additional scattered ones. There is glaze wear on the base as one would expect and some glaze rubs. Interestingly there is a place on the inside rim where the potter added a thin slice of clay before firing which now has a rub on top of it. The color is a medium yellow. This pie plate has all the ear marks of hand thrown pottery.
