This is a C1840-60 Antique New England Pantry Box in Old Red Milk Paint This is a most wonderful hard to find color with an all original milk painted surface. The milk paint is old, authentic and original to the box. It measures 9 3/4" diameter and 4 5/8" high.

This box has early irregularly shaped penny nail construction, and is a very solid box made of heavy stock. The lid alone is about 1/2" thick. There is a single finger to the lid, has a clean interior, beautiful oxidation to the lid paint where it has darkened nicely from age with an untouched original surface nice and dry and dull. There is also nice oxidation around the nails. At one time it must have held a white powder. There is even a little hole to the center of the lid and to the base where the center of the lathe was placed to lathe turn the wood. And there are no age splits or cracks and the base is painted.

This very early box has a wonderful feel to the red milk painted surface and is one of the best painted pantry boxes I have ever found (found in New Hampshire years ago). It is magnificent. And the color is great as well!
