This is a C1840-60 Antique New England Pantry Box in Dark Mustard Milk Paint. This is a most wonderful hard to find color with an all original milk painted surface.. The milk paint is old, authentic and original to the box with an untouched original surface nice and dry and dull.

It measures 10 5/8" diameter and 5 1/2"" high. This box has square nail construction, a very dull dry surface to the paint, clean interior, an old age crack going across the center of the lid from shrinkage, and nice iron oxidation around the nails. There are a couple of pieces missing to the lid where the shoe pegs went in. This happens from age to the wood. An old repair to the base edge was done with old irregularly shaped nails but now they no longer hold the base edge to the base. But the box is not unstable there. There is a very old repair to the upper part of the base lap where there seem to be a very old putty? fill. This part is under the lid when the lid is on the box. The base is unpainted.

This very early box has a wonderful feel to the dark mustard painted surface.
