This is a C1840-60 New England Pantry Box in old early Mustard Milk Paint. The dry milk paint surface has lots of brush strokes that I like to see on early milk paint.

Small penny nails are holding the lap bands together, with thick stock and wooden shoe peg construction around the base and the lid. There have been many early nail replacements to the shoe pegs done over the years. I love the mouse chews at one lid edge.

There is an age split from wood shrinkage across the top of the lid with half of the lid somewhat wiggly but still tightly fixed to the lid bands and the rest of the lid. This happens very frequently to early boxes as the wood shrinks and gets out-of-round over time. Pieces are missing around the top of the lid and base typical for larger boxes.

The box has beautiful smooth wear and a nice dull dry surface. The paint color is difficult to define as they mixed the milk paint sometimes, but the box seems to be a dark mustard color which is very desirable if you are putting a mustard yellow pantry box stack together.

And this one has the heavy stock to the body as well which measures 10 1/4" diameter and 5" tall.
