This is an Antique C1860-80 New England Pantry Box in Green Milk Paint and is a very nice larger size measuring 10 1/4" diameter and 5 3/8" tall.

The forest green milk paint is dull and dry with lots of those brush strokes that I like to see on early milk painted pantry boxes. Actually, the outer green milk paint appears to be over an earlier Windsor green milk paint and there are some signs on the box that there may be an earlier gray paint as well.

When looking on the lid, you can see tell tale signs where a smaller box must have rested. The construction is nailed and shoe peg with some very old repairs done with irregularly shaped penny nails. The box is made from heavy stock, and there are some chips out of the lid edge from age and shrinkage around where the shoe pegs were placed.

The lapped bands have nailed construction now covered up by the green milk paint. The construction is solid and sturdy, but there are some small chips to the bottom of the base edge from age or possibly by mice. The interior is clean.

The color is great and the size is great!
