This is a 19thC New England Bail Handle Pantry Box in original Bittersweet red Milk Paint measuring 6 1/2" diameter and 2 3/4" high. This box is GREAT and is signed Murdock & Co/ Winchendon/ Mass.Also ii is labeled SODA.

This box has all the bells and whistles- great color, is signed and labeled. It has the typical construction for a Winchendon box. Since the box is small, it has medium to thin wood stock construction. There are no cracks or splits to the top or base, the base has just a little give from age shrinkage but not due to any wooden peg breakage.

It has a dull dry surface to the milk paint that I like to see. The construction also includes wooden peg and penny nail construction with some nailed old repairs. The lid side band has a 6" horizontal split to the lap band where someone tried a repair there long ago. Winchendon boxes are very hard to find these days and this one has great color and all the bells and whistles.

The color is great to add to any pantry stack.
