This is a 19thC Antique New England Wood Bowl in Blue Milk Paint. The paint almost has a blue-gray in appearance depending upon the light source. This is a large size bowl measuring 16" to 16 1/2" and about 4 1/2" tall.

It is out of round from age and shrinkage. The blue paint is all original and has a nice dull dry surface to it. The original blue milk paint is worn in places to appear more like a wash although the paint was never thickly applied to begin with. The bowl was lathe turned with a slightly raised footed base. In other areas, the paint shows a little thickness, but mostly the paint is a wash.

A very thin tight age line appears on the exterior footed base that does not go through to the interior. A 2" long age split from the rim appear to the interior and exterior as well. The deep interior shows the appropriate signs of use and chopping.

The patina is great with a nice worn feel to the wood. Wooden bowls in old blue milk paint are always popular with anyone assembling a collection of American Country.
