This is a C1930 Black Stockinette Rag Cloth Doll Painted Face measuring 24" tall. Her densely rag stuffed black stockinette cotton fabric body is hand stitched, jointed at the hips, knees, shoulders and elbows. This gal is a primitive rag cloth doll so she has some repairs to the body as you would expect. Her legs are attached at the front of the hips so she has a nice large flat bottom for sitting which is what she does best. And she can sit beautifully on her own as well with a little bit of positioning.

She is made of cotton stockinette with a very heavy torso and head very very solidly stuffed. In fact her neck feels like it may have been stuffed with a piece of wood as her neck is very stiff and also gives weight to her. So the head/neck area is very firm without wobble. Some wear and mends appear to her body here and there as you would expect from an old doll. Her right hand has a small stitched attached thumb with a mitt hand but the left hand thumb is missing. She has painted eyes nose and mouth.

Her wig/hair is a black yarn crocheted mesh cap stitched to her head with braided loops of yarn dispersed here and there for a nappy effect. She is wearing a matching cotton double pink calico outfit that includes dress and bloomers (original??).

The dress and bloomers fit her very well and the dress is completely hand stitched while the bloomers are machine stitched. The bloomers have not been subject to fade and wear as the dress has here and there in places.

She is sitting in a 19thC child's chair so that there is some reference to size, but the chair is a prop and does not come with her. She feels like the size of a human child in your arms and is quite the lovely gal.
