This is a Rare Small Size Antique New England Bail Handle Pantry Box measuring only 7 7/8" diameter and 4 1/8" tall. This size is extremely hard to find and needed for the top of a bail handle pantry box stack.

The box is of good solid heavy stock and solid construction. There are two very fine age lines to the base that do not go through to the interior base. The lid has a long chamfered finger, there is good patina and wear to the wood surface, clean interior, and has chamfered lap band at the base join.

This is an early box with some small square nails at the base lap band. Of note, there are some pieces of the edge of the base lap band that are missing, and one of the metal bail handle holders on the side is missing a nail reinforcement and therefore is loose. 

Again, this is an extremely difficult to find size in the bail handle form of pantry box in untouched original condition.
