This is a C1900 Red + White Variable Star Variation Pieced Quilt measuring a large 94" x 87". Red and White quilts were very popular during the C1900 period. This quilt has been in moth ball storage but has been aired. The pieced design is very nice with complete hand piecing and hand quilting done in diagonal cross hatch pattern.

The original binding is in excellent condition. The quilt was previously cleaned/washed with the muslin an ivory color and not snow white as it should be. There is some lightening to the red fabric along one edge. The white muslin backing has one 3/4" right angle tear, about five light tan age spots the size of a quarter and a 1 1/2" fabric split. The front has a small hole to just the front the size of a pea, and several light tan age spots the size of a half dollar. No other tears, holes, or repairs.

The quilt has a nice soft thin feel and is a beautiful quilt in a very nice graphic design.
