I love small primitive antique 19thC gameboards or checkerboards and this one is authentic and right. On this one, I believe the wood may be chestnut. The squares appear to be painted on with a wash or watercolor. The back is signed in pencil in several places (Samuel, Eli, Edward Shipshewana) and also contains simple primitive drawings mostly of primitive childlike human figures. The back also contains holes for a Fox and Geese game. It measures 12" x 11 1/4" x 3/4" with a nice patina and light feel to the wood.
