This is a Large Antique 19thC New England Pantry Box in Putty White Paint that would be great for the bottom of a stack as it measures 11 1/2" in diameter and 7 1/8" tall. It is all authentic, original and right dating to the mid 19thC.

The construction is very thick (nearly 1/4") and one of the sturdiest boxes I have ever seen. The paint history on this one is also very interesting as it has several coats. Starting with the outer coat, it is an earlier enamel C1900 in a nice dull dry sheen with lots of brush strokes and paint dribbles that I like to see on an authentic box. Then a medium green is peeking out here and there. Beyond that seems to be an earlier darker gray milk paint. And lastly there might be a red milk paint under everything. Certainly an intriguing paint history. The exterior putty color is excellent on its own.

One of the wood shoe pegs is missing along the lid band making room for a little movement in the lid edge, an old chunk is missing from a lid top, a clean interior, and no age splits to the base or lid. The early irregularly shaped penny nail construction along the base seam have been long ago covered by paint. There is a pale green shadow around the lid band that is not there in real life.

This is a great box and in a wonderful color.
