This is a 19thC New England Bail Handle Firkin in Old White Paint measuring 7 7/8" tall, 7 1/4" diameter at the top lid and 8" diameter at the bottom base. This antique firkin would be great near the top of a firkin stack as it is one of the larger size bail handle firkins, actually somewhat difficult to find.

There is a metal band around the base and the lid top and base top bands are fastened with staples and copper nails. The metal bail handle may have had a wooden handle at one time, but now is hard to tell.

The putty white paint (more white than putty) has all the brush strokes that I like to see on old paint that tells me it is old and authentic. The paint is a late 19thC enamel now having a nice dull sheen patina to it from years of handling.

Everything is nice and tight with no cracks. The base was painted and the interior is clean with some staining from ingredients that it once held. It also has all the appropriate wear.

Again, this firkin is a nice small size with great surface.
