This is a 19thC Small Bail Handle Firkin in Mustard Paint measuring 7 3/8" diameter to the lid, 8 1/4" diameter to the base, and 7 1/2" tall. It is a great small firkin for the top or near the top of a firkin stack, and is the larger size of wire bail handle firkins.

It is an early firkin in very old enamel paint in a nice dull dry sheen. That paint is over an earlier darker mustard milk paint color. The outer painted surface is nice and thick. Copper nails hold the lap bands in place. A sliver of the lid band is missing about 5" long which happened long ago. The base is unpainted and the interior was filled with white powder such as cornmeal or flour.

No cracks or splits to the base or lid top and the construction is very sound. There is a small old lid band notch at the bottom lap join. It has a great dull dry surface and patina.
